This site is the product of years of research in Japan. The materials published here are adding to publications made in journals, newspapers and books in recent years (see under "publications").

Under publications, you will find, among others, "companion pages" that add visual material to articles, when photographs etc. could not be included in the print edition of the article/book.

You can use the materials published on this website freely, but credit would be appreciated.

All the materials presented here are in my possession. Since most of the materials are from before 1945, copyright (according to Japanese and German laws) is expired. Photographs of recent statues, unless otherwise noted, are taken by myself (or have been provided to me by friends or colleagues).
